A used ECU needs more than fitting — it needs your VIN, your keys, your mileage. Each step has to be done right or the car won't start, won't recognise the key, or will throw codes.

Part-number check.

Before you buy a used ECU, we'll check that the part number you're looking at will actually adapt to your car. Wrong donor = no go, and these mistakes can be costly.

03 / VIN

VIN writing.

The donor ECU still has the original car's VIN burned into it. We re-write yours, so every module on your car agrees with the ECU about which vehicle it's in.

04 / Immo

Immobiliser deactivation.

The donor ECU is locked to its old keys. We deactivate the immobiliser data and re-pair to your existing keys — your car's keys keep working as before.

05 / Mileage

Mileage alignment.

The donor ECU's stored mileage almost certainly won't match yours. We sync it to your cluster value so all modules agree, no warning flags raised on the next service.

Verify & test.

Things drivers usually ask.

What's the difference between cloning and adaptation?
Cloning copies your original ECU's data onto a donor — you need both your original and a donor. Adaptation takes a used ECU from another car and re-pairs it to yours — you don't need your original to work. Adaptation is the right route when your original ECU is too damaged to read.
Where do I get a used ECU from?
eBay, breaker yards, Facebook Marketplace, scrap motor groups. Send us the part number you're looking at BEFORE buying — we'll confirm it'll adapt to your car. Mistakes here are expensive, so the up-front check is worth doing.
Will my existing keys still work?
Yes. As part of the adaptation, we deactivate the donor ECU's old key data and pair it to your existing keys. No new keys needed, no key-cutting bills.
Does the mileage need to match?
Yes — we sync the ECU's stored mileage to your cluster, so all modules agree. Otherwise the car will eventually flag a mileage discrepancy on its next dealer service or MOT data check.
What if the donor ECU was previously immobilised or stolen-marked?
We can usually clear it, depending on the make. Some manufacturers lock ECUs after theft markers more tightly than others. If we can't clear it cleanly, we'll tell you up front before you spend money on the adaptation.
How long does adaptation take?
Most adaptations are 2–3 hours on your driveway, start to finish. Same-day in almost all cases. We'll quote a fixed price up front before booking.
