Why does my new cluster show the wrong mileage?

Every cluster has its own mileage value stored internally. A new cluster ships with zero. A used cluster carries the donor car's value. Until it's synced to match your real mileage, the dashboard reading won't be accurate.

Doesn't fitting the new cluster automatically copy the mileage?

No. On nearly every modern car, the cluster, ECU and gateway each hold a stored mileage value independently. Fitting the cluster doesn't sync them — that's a separate process we do via specialist tooling.

Will the cluster show the correct mileage afterwards?

Yes. We set it to the true mileage of the vehicle (taken from the ECU or other modules), so every module on the car agrees. It looks and behaves exactly as if the cluster had been there from new.

How long does it take?

Most cluster mileage syncs are 30–45 minutes on your driveway. We don't need to remove the cluster — it's all done through the OBD port with the right manufacturer tooling.

What if I haven't fitted the cluster yet?

What if my old cluster is dead — how do you know the real mileage?

When the cluster is dead, we read it from the ECU instead — it stores the same value. If the ECU is also unreadable, we'll discuss other modules that store the figure (gateway, BCM) and confirm before committing.
