The no-start nobody expects
You turn the key. The engine cranks — or doesn't — the dash is dark or dying, and the immobiliser light flashes at you. No warning beyond, perhaps, some dash flickering you'd been ignoring. This is the most common way the shared Ford cluster family announces total failure, and it carries a cruel twist: the car has immobilised itself in place. You can't drive it to a garage. A postal repair means pulling your own dashboard apart. A recovery truck costs before repairs even start.
Our whole service is shaped around this exact moment: a van that brings the repair to the car.
Is it the cluster? The 60-second check
- Immobiliser light flashing fast or oddly (not the normal slow arm blink)
- Dash completely dead, partly dead, or backlight off with the ignition live
- Mileage window blank or showing dashes
- History of flickering, blackouts or gauges dropping in recent weeks
- Codes if you can read them: P1260, U1900, U0155
- Battery known-good (a flat battery fakes several of these)
Three or more of those and the cluster is the prime suspect. We still prove it at the car before repairing — diagnosis first is part of every visit.
What happens when you call
- Call or message with your postcode and symptoms. Dead dash, flashing immobiliser light, gauges at zero, dashes for mileage — tell us what the car is doing and what it is (Focus, C-Max, Kuga, Transit, Galaxy, S-Max, Mondeo).
- We come to the car. Home, work or wherever it refused to start. The van carries the test gear, components and tools for these Visteon clusters.
- Diagnose first, at the car. We confirm the cluster is actually the fault before any repair — if it's the battery, wiring or another module, you get told straight.
- Board-level repair on site. The cluster comes out, the failed stage is rebuilt on the bench in the van, and it goes straight back into your car.
- Started, tested, driven. Gauges, mileage, warning lights and immobiliser all proven working before we leave — same day.
Why not recovery + garage + post?
| Postal / workshop repairers | DashTech mobile repair | |
|---|---|---|
| Getting the cluster to the bench | You remove it yourself (or pay a garage), then post it and wait | We bring the bench to the car — nothing is removed until we arrive |
| A car that won't start | Recovery truck to a garage, or DIY dashboard surgery | Irrelevant — the car never has to move |
| Time off the road | Typically the best part of a week door to door | Same-day: repaired, refitted and road-tested in one visit |
| Your mileage, keys & immobiliser | Preserved by good repairers — but a swapped/used cluster needs programming | Original unit repaired at the car: mileage, keys and PATS pairing untouched |
| Who you deal with | A courier and a call centre | The technician, on your driveway |
Horley long-stay — home from holiday to a dead Focus
Family landed at Gatwick to a car that wouldn't start in the long-stay, immobiliser flashing. We met them at the car park, repaired the cluster at the space and they drove home that evening — no recovery off airport property.
