The Mk1 signature: dashes where your mileage was
The first-generation Focus (and the Transit Connect, which shares its cluster style) fails in a recognisable sequence: the odometer starts showing ---- instead of mileage, the backlight gets patchy or dies, warning lights misbehave — and in the end stage the car cranks but won't start, or won't wake the dash at all. Codes like P1260 (theft detected) appear because the immobiliser conversation runs through the failing board.
Mk1 cluster symptoms
- Odometer displays dashes (----) instead of the mileage
- Cluster backlight dead or flickering — unreadable at night
- Fuel or temperature gauge reading wrongly or not at all
- Intermittent no-start, immobiliser light flashing
- Complete cluster failure — no gauges, no display, car won't start
Repaired at your address — mileage restored, nothing programmed
We repair the original Mk1 cluster at the car: board out, failed joints and components rebuilt in the van, refitted and proven. The true mileage returns to the display and the immobiliser pairing never changes. No courier, no donor cluster of unknown history, no programming bill.
- Call or message with your postcode and symptoms. Dead dash, flashing immobiliser light, gauges at zero, dashes for mileage — tell us what the car is doing and what it is (Focus, C-Max, Kuga, Transit, Galaxy, S-Max, Mondeo).
- We come to the car. Home, work or wherever it refused to start. The van carries the test gear, components and tools for these Visteon clusters.
- Diagnose first, at the car. We confirm the cluster is actually the fault before any repair — if it's the battery, wiring or another module, you get told straight.
- Board-level repair on site. The cluster comes out, the failed stage is rebuilt on the bench in the van, and it goes straight back into your car.
- Started, tested, driven. Gauges, mileage, warning lights and immobiliser all proven working before we leave — same day.

The owner had lived with the dashes until the morning the car wouldn't start before work. One visit to the drive in Cheam: cluster repaired, true mileage back on the display, car started and away by lunchtime.
