The Focus Mk1's fault, in a working van
The first-generation Transit Connect carries the same style of Visteon cluster as the Focus Mk1 — central speedo, small LCD odometer — and it fails the same way: dashes instead of mileage, dying backlights, wandering gauges, and eventually a van that cranks but won't start. For a small business that's a stopped business.
Connect symptoms
- Odometer shows ---- instead of mileage
- Cluster backlight dead — unreadable on early starts
- Fuel/temp gauges misreading
- Intermittent or permanent no-start, immobiliser light active
One visit at the van
- Call or message with your postcode and symptoms. Dead dash, flashing immobiliser light, gauges at zero, dashes for mileage — tell us what the car is doing and what it is (Focus, C-Max, Kuga, Transit, Galaxy, S-Max, Mondeo).
- We come to the car. Home, work or wherever it refused to start. The van carries the test gear, components and tools for these Visteon clusters.
- Diagnose first, at the car. We confirm the cluster is actually the fault before any repair — if it's the battery, wiring or another module, you get told straight.
- Board-level repair on site. The cluster comes out, the failed stage is rebuilt on the bench in the van, and it goes straight back into your car.
- Started, tested, driven. Gauges, mileage, warning lights and immobiliser all proven working before we leave — same day.
