Same cluster as the Focus — same fault, same fix
The C-Max has always been a Focus underneath, and that includes the instrument cluster. The Mk1 (2003–2010) carries the Visteon unit of the Focus Mk2/Mk2.5 — flickering dash, gauges collapsing to zero, dashes for mileage, and finally the no-start with a flashing immobiliser light (P1260/U1900). The Mk2 (2010–2019) uses the Mk3-era twin-pod cluster and inherits its fading, corrupting centre display.
Because C-Maxes are family cars, the failure usually surfaces mid-routine — school run, supermarket, nursery pickup. A postal repair means dismantling the dash of a car that won't start and losing it for a week. We come to the car instead, and it's driving again the same day.
C-Max symptoms
- Cluster dead on the key — no gauges, no display, car won't start
- Immobiliser light flashing; codes P1260, U1900, U0155
- Gauges drop to zero on the move, engine may cut
- Flickering dash that recovers after restart (early stage)
- Mk2: centre display faded, scrambled or blank
Why mobile wins for a family car
| Postal / workshop repairers | DashTech mobile repair | |
|---|---|---|
| Getting the cluster to the bench | You remove it yourself (or pay a garage), then post it and wait | We bring the bench to the car — nothing is removed until we arrive |
| A car that won't start | Recovery truck to a garage, or DIY dashboard surgery | Irrelevant — the car never has to move |
| Time off the road | Typically the best part of a week door to door | Same-day: repaired, refitted and road-tested in one visit |
| Your mileage, keys & immobiliser | Preserved by good repairers — but a swapped/used cluster needs programming | Original unit repaired at the car: mileage, keys and PATS pairing untouched |
| Who you deal with | A courier and a call centre | The technician, on your driveway |
The visit
- Call or message with your postcode and symptoms. Dead dash, flashing immobiliser light, gauges at zero, dashes for mileage — tell us what the car is doing and what it is (Focus, C-Max, Kuga, Transit, Galaxy, S-Max, Mondeo).
- We come to the car. Home, work or wherever it refused to start. The van carries the test gear, components and tools for these Visteon clusters.
- Diagnose first, at the car. We confirm the cluster is actually the fault before any repair — if it's the battery, wiring or another module, you get told straight.
- Board-level repair on site. The cluster comes out, the failed stage is rebuilt on the bench in the van, and it goes straight back into your car.
- Started, tested, driven. Gauges, mileage, warning lights and immobiliser all proven working before we leave — same day.
C-Max Mk1 in Epsom — dead outside nursery at 8:50am
Mum called from the kerb with a dark dash and a flashing immobiliser light. We reached the car mid-morning, repaired the cluster in the van and she made the afternoon pickup in her own car.
