Footwell module cost,
repair vs replace.

Pricing up a footwell module fix? There are three routes — a new module from the dealer, a used one from eBay, or repairing the module you already have — and the bills are wildly different. Here is the honest breakdown, and why we quote one fixed price from your reg and postcode instead of publishing a flat rate. The price you are quoted is the price you pay.

What each route
really costs.

Add up each route honestly — part, programming, transport, time off the road — and the picture changes completely.

01 / Dealer part

New module:
the part alone.

A brand-new FRM typically runs to several hundred pounds at a dealer before anything else happens. It is a perfectly good module — it is just the most expensive possible answer to what is usually a data fault.

Part cost only
02 / Dealer extras

Then programming
on top.

A new FRM is blank — it must be programmed and coded to your car, which is a further dealer charge. The part price you were quoted is never the finished number.

The hidden line
03 / Transport

Getting a broken car
to them.

No indicators and dodgy lights means many owners will not drive it — so add recovery or a trailer, plus the days the car sits in a queue. This cost is real even though nobody quotes it.

The forgotten cost
04 / Used gamble

The eBay module
that will not code.

Used FRMs carry the donor car's coding and frequently refuse to programme. Many owners pay for the module, pay for a coding attempt, then still repair the original. The cheap route, twice as expensive.

Usually wasted money
05 / Postal repair

Postal services:
cheap but slow.

Post-away repair firms can look cheaper on the headline — but you strip the module out yourself, courier it both ways, and the car sits dead for days. Your time and downtime are part of the price.

DIY removal + days off road
06 / Our route

Mobile repair:
one fixed price.

We come to you, rebuild your original module at the car in about an hour, and test everything before we leave. No part to buy, no programming fees, no recovery, no couriers. One quoted price — that is the whole bill.

What we do

What sets
the quote.

Three factors set the fixed price — all established from your reg and postcode before we travel, so the quote you accept is the amount you pay.

  1. 01

    Where the car is

We are mobile from Leatherhead across London, the South-East and up to 100 miles out. Distance is the honest reason we do not publish one flat price — nearby jobs should not subsidise distant ones, or vice versa.

  2. 02

    Which module you have

FRM2, FRM3 or FRM3R, basis or high, PL2 or PL3 — your registration tells us exactly what is fitted, so the quote is for your actual module, not a guess.

  3. 03

    Data fault or board fault

Most jobs are corrupted data — read, rebuild, done. A module damaged by a dead short or water needs component-level board work, which takes longer. We tell you which yours is before any work starts.

The whole bill, compared
  • Dealer: part + programming + recovery
  • Used: module + coding attempt + risk
  • Postal: repair + couriers + days off road
  • Mobile repair: one fixed quote
  • Quoted upfront — in minutes
→ Reg + postcode = fixed price

Priced this way for
every FRM car.

Same fixed-quote approach for every FRM-equipped BMW and MINI, roughly 2005–2014 — and for the E60/E61/E63 light-module cars too.

Real modules,
real board-level work.

This is what the job actually looks like — FRM boards opened, read and repaired at component level, not swapped for a costly new unit. These photos are from our own bench.

Reg and postcode by phone or WhatsApp, seven days a week. The fixed price comes back in minutes, we come to you, and the job is done at your door in about an hour — nothing added on the day.

The dealer-quote refugee. An owner quoted for a new module plus programming rings us for comparison. Original module repaired at their door — one line on the bill instead of three.

The false economy. A second-hand FRM bought online refused to programme. We repair the original instead — where the money should have gone first.

The downtime maths. The post-away price looked lower — until removal, couriers and a week without the car went on the sheet. At your door, about an hour, done.

FRM repair cost, explained.

How much does BMW footwell module repair cost?
We repair the original module at your door for one fixed price, quoted upfront from your registration and postcode — there is no national price list because travel distance and module variant genuinely change the job. Send the reg and postcode by phone or WhatsApp and the exact figure comes back in minutes, before we travel.
Why don't you publish a flat price?
Because it would either overcharge nearby customers or undercharge distant ones. We cover a large area as a fully mobile service, and an FRM visit in Leatherhead is not the same job as one two hours away. The fixed quote you get is the price you pay — no call-out surprises added on the day.
What does the dealer route cost by comparison?
A brand-new FRM from a BMW or MINI dealer typically runs to several hundred pounds for the part alone, before programming is added — and before you have solved getting a car with faulty lights to them. Repairing your existing module removes the part cost, the programming cost and the recovery problem in one go.
Is a used module from eBay the cheap option?
It usually is not. Used FRMs carry the donor car's coding and often will not programme to your car, so many owners pay for the module, then pay someone to attempt coding, then still need the original repaired. If your original module is recoverable — and most are — repairing it is the cheaper and cleaner route.
What determines my exact price?
Three things: distance from our Leatherhead base, which module your car carries (FRM2, FRM3, FRM3R and variant), and whether the fault is corrupted data or physical board damage — board-level component repairs take longer than data rebuilds. All three are established from your reg and postcode before we quote.
Does the quote cost anything?
No. Reg and postcode by phone or WhatsApp, and the fixed price comes back in minutes, seven days a week. If the fault turns out not to be the FRM when we diagnose at the car, we tell you what it actually is rather than repairing the wrong thing.
Is MINI footwell module repair priced the same way?
Yes — R55–R61 MINIs use the same BMW FRM3 module, so the same fixed-quote approach applies. See the dedicated MINI footwell module repair page for the model detail.
