FRM3 repair,
done at your door.

Already know it's the FRM3? Diagnostics showing no communication, outputs shut down after a short, or memory corrupted after a jump start? We rebuild the FRM3's data on the original board, at the car — no exchange units, no posting, original coding preserved. FRM3 basis and high, PL2 and PL3, FRM3R and the earlier FRM2, on every FRM-equipped BMW and MINI R55–R61.

The FRM3 faults
we repair.

The FRM3 fails in a handful of well-understood ways — and almost all of them are repairable on the original board without replacement.

01 / No comms

Module off
the bus.

Diagnostics cannot see the FRM3 at all — typically straight after a jump start, charger or battery change corrupted its memory. The classic fault, and the most routinely recoverable.

Most common
02 / Short circuit

Outputs
shut down.

A failed bulb or chafed loom shorted an output, and the FRM3 shut that circuit down to protect itself — lights out on one side is the usual giveaway. We repair the cause and reset the shut-down state.

One-side lights
03 / Corrupt data

Memory
corrupted.

The module's stored data has scrambled after a voltage event — windows, indicators and lights all misbehaving at once. We read what is there and rebuild it, keeping the car's original coding.

After voltage events
04 / Board damage

Output stage
blown.

A dead short can take a driver stage with it. That is a component-level board repair — done on your original module at the bench, not solved by software alone.

Component-level work
05 / Water ingress

Corrosion on
the board.

Footwell leaks find the FRM eventually. Where corrosion is caught early the board can often be cleaned and repaired; where it cannot, we tell you honestly before any work is done.

Car stuck at your workshop with an FRM3 fault? We come to you — the module stays with the car, and your customer's coding stays intact. Trade enquiries welcome.

We come to your workshop

Diagnose, rebuild,
verify.

FRM3 work rewards method. We confirm the module is genuinely at fault, repair at the right level — data or board — and prove every circuit before we leave.

  1. 01

    Confirm it is the FRM3

No-comms and shut-down symptoms can be mimicked by supply, earth or bus faults. We check the basics first so you never pay for a module repair the car did not need.

  2. 02

Rebuild data — or repair the board

Corrupted memory is read and rebuilt with the car's original coding preserved. Blown output stages and corrosion get component-level board repair on the bench at your location.

  3. 03

Reset, clear and test every circuit

Short-circuit shut-downs reset, codes cleared, then every output proven: lights both sides, indicators, windows, locking. Done when it all works, not before.

Real modules,
real board-level work.

This is what the job actually looks like — FRM boards opened, read and repaired at component level, not swapped for a costly new unit. These photos are from our own bench.

Exchange services swap your module for someone else's; postal services have you stripping trim and waiting on couriers twice. We rebuild your own FRM3 at the car in about an hour — original board, original coding, every circuit tested before we leave.

The vanished module. An E90 jump-started at the roadside; diagnostics now cannot see the FRM3 at all. Memory read and rebuilt at the car — module back on the bus, coding untouched.

The protective shutdown. A blown bulb shorted the circuit and the FRM3 shut the whole side down. Cause repaired, shut-down state reset, both sides lit before we leave.

FRM3 repair, explained.

What is the difference between FRM3 and FRM3R?
FRM3R is the later revision of the FRM3 footwell module — functionally the same job, different internals. Both fail the same way when battery voltage dips, and we repair both, along with the earlier FRM2 and original FRM, across every basis, high, PL2 and PL3 variant.
What do PL2 and PL3 mean on an FRM3?
They are platform/hardware levels of the FRM3, fitted to different model years and specifications. You will find the designation on the module's label, but you do not need to know it — send us your registration and we identify the exact module your car carries. All PL2 and PL3 variants are covered.
My diagnostics say the FRM has no communication — is it dead?
Usually not. An FRM that has dropped off the bus after a jump start or battery charge has typically corrupted its memory rather than failed physically. We read and rebuild the module at board level — most "dead" FRM3s leave working, with their original coding.
Can you fix an FRM3 that shut down after a bulb short-circuit?
Yes. The FRM3 shuts down outputs to protect itself when it detects short circuits, and those events are recorded internally. We repair the cause, reset the module's shut-down state and, where an output stage has been damaged, repair the board at component level.
Do I need to remove the module or post it anywhere?
No — that is the point. We come to the car and the module stays with the car. No stripping trim to remove it yourself, no couriers, no days off the road, and no risk of a used replacement that will not code.
Which cars use the FRM3?
BMW 1 Series (E81/E82/E87/E88), 3 Series (E90–E93), X1 (E84), Z4 (E89), X5 (E70), X6 (E71/E72) and MINI R55–R61 — roughly 2005 to 2014, with FRM2 on earlier builds. See the full model list on our BMW and MINI FRM pages.
How much does FRM3 repair cost?
It depends on your location and module, so call or WhatsApp with your registration and postcode for a fixed price upfront. It is a fraction of a new module plus dealer coding — and about an hour at your door rather than days of couriers.
