Do MINIs have the same footwell module problem as BMW?
Yes — generation R55–R61 MINIs (2006–2014) use the same BMW FRM3 footwell module, and it fails the same way: a dip or spike in battery voltage from a jump start, flat battery or battery change corrupts the module's memory and takes out lights, windows and indicators in one go.
One side of my MINI's lights has stopped working — is that the FRM?
Very likely. Lights out on one side with good bulbs is one of the most recognisable MINI FRM symptoms — the module controls each lighting circuit individually, so a fault can drop one side while the other works perfectly. We repair the module at your door and both sides come back.
My MINI's windows stopped after a battery change — why?
The moment of disconnection or reconnection caused a voltage event that corrupted the FRM's stored data. The window motors and switches are almost certainly fine. Rebuilding the module's data restores them — and your one-touch window function — without any new parts.
Can my MINI's footwell module be repaired rather than replaced?
In most cases, yes. We read the corrupted memory, rebuild the data and put your original module back in service with its original coding — so nothing needs programming at a dealer afterwards. Every FRM variant (FRM2, FRM3, FRM3R — high and basis) and every part number is covered.
Which MINIs are covered?
R55 Clubman, R56 Hatch (One, Cooper, Cooper S, JCW), R57 Convertible, R58 Coupé, R59 Roadster, R60 Countryman and R61 Paceman — roughly 2006 to 2014. First-generation R50/R52/R53 MINIs use a different system entirely; if yours is one of those, call us and we will point you the right way.
How long does MINI footwell module repair take?
About an hour on site for most jobs. We come to your home, workplace or the roadside, repair the module at the car and test everything — lights both sides, windows, indicators, locking — before we leave.
How much does MINI footwell module repair cost?
It depends on where you are, so call or WhatsApp with your registration and postcode for a fixed price upfront. It is a fraction of a new module from MINI once dealer coding and recovery are added — and you keep your original module and coding.
